Welcome to Quarter 2. I am excited to officially welcome our new freshman students and families into the Web Development and Design program. Freshman rotation has wrapped up and we now have our full cohort for the school year. I look forward to working with your students over the next several years as they continue to build their skills in web development, design, programming, and digital media.
College in High School Opportunities
Our program currently offers four College in High School courses through HACC. These courses are Web101, Web110, Web125, and Web130, and are taken during junior and senior years. I am actively working on expanding this opportunity and my long term goal is to provide eight total courses for students to earn additional college credits and gain a strong head start in the field.
Student Competitions and Career Development
We have many students participating in competitive events this year through FBLA and SkillsUSA. Events include Web Design, Graphic Design, Data and AI Sciences, Technology Solutions, Intro to Programming, Photography, and more. Competitive events build real world skills, strengthen portfolios, and offer valuable leadership experience. If your student is not competing this year, I highly encourage them to select an event for future participation. We also have opportunities through the PA Media and Design Competition.
Fall 2025 OAC Meeting
Our Fall Occupational Advisory Committee meeting will be held on November 13 at 4:15 PM virtually. During this meeting we will review budget needs, discuss classroom resources, and review industry trends that impact instruction. If you are interested in joining the OAC or learning more about what the OAC does, please visit: https://mydcts.org/oac/
Student Support and Work Completion Reminder
A trend I have noticed this year is an increase in missing assignments. Students receive zeros when work is not submitted, and this has affected several grades already. Please encourage your student to check Schoology regularly and stay up to date on due dates. Students are given plenty of structured time in class to complete most, if not all, assignments. I am always here to support students who need help or clarification. Students should ask questions, stay engaged, and take advantage of the work time provided so they remain on track for success.
I look forward to a strong second quarter and continued student growth. Thank you for your support and involvement in the Web Development and Design program.
