2024-25 Quarter 2 Newsletter
January 13, 2025

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing holiday break and is ready to kick off the new year with fresh energy and enthusiasm. As we prepare for the upcoming second semester, I’m thrilled to share some of the exciting developments happening in our Web Development & Design program.

OAC Meeting: Industry Insights and AI Integration

In December, we held our first-semester Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meeting, bringing together industry professionals to guide our curriculum. One of the key points of discussion was the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our course content. As technology evolves, so do employer expectations. These professionals shared insights into the skills they seek in new hires, helping us refine our program to better prepare students for their future careers. This feedback ensures that our students graduate with the technical skills and professional qualities that make them stand out in the competitive tech industry. Below you will find the meeting minutes to this newsletter for those who are interested in learning more about our discussions.

Senior Class Spotlight: EMR Software Development

Our senior class has been hard at work on an ambitious project to create a simulated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software. This software will facilitate collaboration among six different programs at DCTS, allowing them to work together using shared patient data. The students have shown incredible dedication and innovation in bringing this project to life, and their work will be presented to the administration at the end of the month. Stay tuned for updates—and screenshots of their progress—on this game-changing initiative!

FBLA Success: A Growing Presence

December also marked the FBLA Regional event, where our students showcased their skills and teamwork. I’m thrilled to share that there will be 11 students across 7 teams from our Web program will represent DCTS at the FBLA State Conference in April—more than double the number of participants from last year! This is a testament to the hard work and talent of our students, as well as their commitment to excellence in competition.

Students will be competing in the following events:

  • Intro to Social Media Strategies (2 students, 1 team)
  • Social Media Strategies (3 students, 2 teams)
  • Website Design (4 students, 2 teams)
  • Website Coding & Development (2 students, 1 team)

Thank you for your continued support of our program and students. It’s shaping up to be an exciting semester, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things our students accomplish in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to learn more about what’s happening in the Web Development & Design program!
