As we wrap up the third quarter, I’m excited to share the progress and achievements of our talented Web Development and Design students. It’s been a period of real-world learning, competition excitement, and personal growth. Here’s a snapshot of our journey this quarter.
Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC)
I am looking for a student and parent/guardian to join my Occupational Advisory Committee. Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) is a vital component of our program and consists of industry professionals, students, and parents of students. The OAC meets twice per year and during these meetings members share their expertise, offer insights into current industry trends, and provide valuable feedback on the curriculum to ensure students continue one with successful careers. You can learn more here: Occupational Advisory Committee and if you are interested in joining, please let me know!
Real-World Projects Take Center Stage
Our senior class has embarked on an incredible journey, working with real clients to develop websites that meet genuine business needs. They are currently in the discovery and proposal phase, engaging with a diverse range of clients including a beloved local coffee shop, our very own DC Taste restaurant, a yoga instructor, and more. This hands-on experience is invaluable, providing our students with a taste of the challenges and rewards of web development in the real world.
FBLA State Competition Bound
I’m thrilled to announce that two of our teams will be competing in the state competition for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) in both the Web Development and Web Design categories. This is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and technical skills. We’re incredibly proud of them and look forward to supporting them in this prestigious competition.
Personal Milestones
This year has been a period of significant personal and professional development for me. I’ve embarked on the journey to obtain my teaching degree and certification, having started classes at Penn State. Additionally, I’ve passed my OAC test, affirming my qualifications to teach Web Development & Design. It’s an honor and a privilege to guide your children on this educational journey.
Open Invitation for Feedback
While we’ve covered specific highlights here, I always welcome your questions, concerns, or any feedback you might have about our program or your child’s progress. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at jchoate@dcts.org.
As we look forward to the final stretch of the academic year, I’m excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Your support and engagement are invaluable to us, and I’m grateful to be a part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
